Hi,

Just posting to say hello to the new group from the UK. I recently bought my first 3d printer in the form of an Elegoo Neptune 4 Max. Main purpose is intended to be 3d printing moulds for making glassfibre parts for R/C planes but I see that people are directly printing the planes themselves using advanced techniques like vase printing and thin walled techniques so I am likely to try that too.

Hi Boo. That sounds like a good use of 3d printing. I hope you can show some of the RC planes you have made with the molds from the 3d printing.
 
This sounds fascinating, the print volume and resolution of a Neptune means that you could (with high perf resin) actually print miniature copies of the full size wing rib components, for example. They would need to be modified a little (probably reduced) and then assembled just like the full size aircraft but using adhesives rather than rivets as in full size. A little like real old school balsa stuff but many times stronger

Just an idea for consideration, but resin printers can produce very small parts that are amazingly strong. I have used my old photon S with bog-standard Jayo resin to make a little gear wheel for a friend, It was for the clock on his Ford Pop hot rod. I took out the old nylon one, measured it, did a hopeful guess with my CAD, printed it, and dropped it in, it felt a bit rough, but we put the clock back in the dashboard, and it's still working fine a year or so later.

So go for it. Moulds for the bigger stuff, maybe, but try directly printing smaller bits 3D printers don't just make pretty little ornaments, If you design them half reasonably well and use the properties of the material they can make, real, structurally sound, working parts,
