Stop & purge

As a print is in progress (single color) the printer head will move to the purge location , purge some filament & resume printing. May occur again after several minutes or after just a few seconds. Perhaps 100 times in a 90 minute print. What is the problem?

Sounds like the slicer is using a "Purge Tower"? The tower is created layer by layer along w your print. The tower is normally only used for multi-color prints. For single color prints it is not necessary.

What slicer are you using? It should have an option to disable the tower.

There is no tower. I misspoke, the print head goes to the poop bucket, poops filament & resumes the print. repeatedly.
