Using 2025’s mistakes to print smarter in 2026

December was rough for my printer, and honestly, it made me reflect more than troubleshoot. Nothing catastrophic, just enough small failures and inconsistencies to make me realize I’ve kind of plateaued.

I’ve been good at getting prints to finish, but not great at improving my skills. So when something breaks, I fix it fast, but I don’t always learn much from it. That really feels like a missed opportunity after a full year of printing.

And now for 2026, I want to focus more on design skills, dialing in cleaner prints, and finally getting comfortable with CAD instead of relying on presets and luck. Curious what kind of 3D printing goals others are setting after a year of trial, error, and maybe a little burnout.

A lot of people hit that plateau after their first big learning curve. Fixing problems quickly can sometimes hide the chance to really learn from them. Do you feel more excited about improving design skills or print quality going into 2026?

This hits home. I had a bunch of “not terrible, but not clean” prints late 2025 and it made me realize I was basically speedrunning fixes instead of actually leveling up. My 2026 goal is the same vibe as yours, less relying on presets and more understanding why a change works. When you say CAD, are you thinking simple functional parts first or more “design for looks” stuff?

I have heard good things about Blender. I have no clue what it does. I need to watch videos about it to learn what I can do w it? I want to learn more cad programs. I use Tinkercad somewhat?
