What you would change on a custom printer build in 2026?

There is something about looking at your printer at the end of the year and thinking, yeah I would not do that the same way again. So custom builds are great teachers like that.

So... if you were starting a DIY or custom printer build again in 2026... what part or which design decision would you change right away? Frame choice, motion system, electronics, wiring layout, or something you thought was clever at the time but turned out to be a headache.

Curious what lessons people are carrying into the new year.

If I were starting over in 2026, I’d rethink my wiring layout immediately. It worked, but it was way harder to service than it needed to be. Any time something went wrong, I had to half-disassemble the printer just to trace a cable. Next build would be all about clean runs, labels, and easy access, even if it looks less “clever” on day one.
