beginner making a custom 3D printer

There are so many printer parts out there that building one from scratch seems possible for anyone who has engineering skills. I mean, if money isn’t a problem, is making a custom printer for a beginner gonna be easy?
I’m curious about what challenges I might be facing
Firmware like Klipper and main boards like BTT seem easy enough to program, which makes the whole project look even simpler. am I too optimistic about this?

nah, you aren't too optimistic, but don't underestimate the hidden costs.
self sourcing parts, like nuts, bolts, specific idlers, usually ends up costing 2x more than a high end kit like a Voron or a RatRig because of shipping and minimum order quantities

if money isn't an issue, I'd recommend building a Voron 2.4 kit first
