I ran into this yesterday printing PETG and it took me awhile to find the issue, so I'm sharing here.

I had the printer stop and throw an error saying it wasn't extruding filament. After several times of taking the nozzle apart and a couple of different spools of filament, I finally found the issue.

I started with a roll.of transparent filament. I think maybe it had a little too much moisture in it as the cutter in the print head got stuck in it. This prevented the blade from retracting effectively putting a wall across the extruder into the hot end. It was not obvious at first and certainly not easy to see. Wish I had taken a picture to share.

Anyway, if you run into this error, take a close look to make sure the blade in the extruder exit isn't stuck.

Wow, stuck cutter blade isn't something I'd have thought to check right away. I usually just assume a clog or bad filament, true..makes sense that if the blade can't retract, it blocks the filament path and throws the extrusion error, definitely going to keep an eye on that now, thanks man

Normal moist filament mistake if you don't dry your spools properly before printing PETG. Lesson here: don't trust your filament—dry it out first, and always double check the cutter mechanism before starting otherwise, you're setting yourself up for a nightmare with clogged nozzles and wasted time, it took me way too long to figure that one out too. Keep an eye on it so you don't waste your day on something this avoidable

A stuck cutter blade with transparent PETG would've been sneaky! Good catch and also a good reminder to check all moving parts when troubleshooting!

Great find and thanks for sharing a problem that's very hard to spot. This may be funny but I keep a small dental mirror in my toolkit which helps a lot for getting a look into those hidden parts of the print head.

Thanks for sharing this! Did you notice any popping or stringing before the error, or was it a clean fail? Also curious if drying the filament helped afterward or if the cutter needed manual fixing. Definitely bookmarking this tip!
