PLA vs ABS for small holiday decorations?

i’ve been printing a few small Christmas decorations lately and I’m honestly overthinking the material choice. Most of my past prints were basic PLA so that’s what I defaulted to, but once I started doing smaller details like ornaments and little figurines, I started wondering if I’m missing out on something better.

I keep seeing people mention ABS or even some silk or specialty filaments for nicer finishes. At the same time I like how easy PLA is and I don’t really want to fight warping when I just want clean details.

For detailed Christmas prints on a typical home 3D printer, what material do you usually reach for first and why? Do you stick with PLA and the like? or switch things up for the holidays

I stick with PLA for most holiday decorations. The ease just wins when I’m printing small stuff with details and don’t want surprises halfway through. Clean prints, minimal fuss, and I can focus on tuning details instead of fighting warping. For indoor Christmas decor, PLA has been more than enough for me.

ABS is great for durability but not a good idea for detail bcs of warping. I usually stick with PLA
silk filaments give unique finishes but need a careful printing, so I don't use it often

PLA is your go to for simple, cheap, and easy prints, it's perfect if you're just starting out
ABS is stronger and great for functional parts, but it’s way pickier. Unless you have an enclosure and your settings dialed in, it loves to warp and peel halfway through
if you're a beginner, I suggest you go with PLA

PLA is usually “print it and enjoy it.” ABS is “print it and babysit it.” For holiday looks, a lot of folks get the nicer finish by switching PLA type instead of switching to ABS. Silk PLA looks great but can be a bit more brittle. Matte PLA hides layer lines. What finish are you aiming for, shiny ornament vibes or crisp painted figurines?
