Is recycled filament ready for long jobs yet?

I finally decided to give recycled filament a shot for some bigger prints, and it’s been an interesting mix of good and bad. The small stuff looks great, but once I scaled up to something that takes eight or nine hours, I started seeing weird layer inconsistencies halfway through the print. I’ve been keeping the spool dry and running at the same temps I use for regular PLA, but maybe this stuff just behaves differently on longer runs. Anyone else tried printing big parts with recycled filament? Does it handle the same once you dial in your settings, or does it always feel a bit unpredictable? I love the idea of using recycled material, especially since I go through a lot of filament, but I’m not sure if it’s worth trusting on large, time-consuming projects yet.

recycled filament seems great until you actually need it to behave the whole run. My big prints always get random soft spots or weird layer lines, even with perfect filament storage. I feel like the quality control just isn’t as tight as regular PLA. I still use it, but only for prototypes or stuff where I won’t cry if it fails at hour nine.

A few brands have gotten better with recycled material, but it often takes slight changes in flow or temp to keep a long print stable. It’s not always a drop-in replacement for standard PLA on multi-hour jobs. Were you running your usual temperature settings, or did you already try adjusting them for the recycled spool?

@Bart_Fatima yeah, my friend complained about the same thing. it's bcs a lot of recycled material like this
isn't filtered thoroughly, and can contain foreign particles that don't melt at standard PLA temperatures
These can cause partial or complete nozzle clogs, leading to interrupted flow and layer inconsistencies, especially during long prints where the material is heated for extended periods

I wanted to love recycled PLA too, but my long prints kept getting weird texture changes halfway through. I think the blend changes as the spool unwinds and the hotend reacts to that. Only thing that kept mine stable was slowing the print way down, which kind of defeats the purpose. I mostly save recycled stuff for test parts now.
